5 Causes of Acne in the Vagina

AllvertaGlobal – Not only on the face and back, acne can also appear on the vagina. Vaginal acne can be caused by several things and usually doesn’t require serious treatment because it will go away on its own over time.

Vaginal acne usually appears around the lips of the vagina or vulva, which is the outermost part of the female genitalia. As with acne on other areas of the body, pimples that appear on the vagina should also not be squeezed, because it will only trigger a bacterial infection and make it spread to the surrounding skin area.

This is the cause of acne on the vagina

The exact cause of vaginal acne is not known. However, there are several things that are thought to trigger the appearance of acne in the pubic area, namely:

1. Clogged pores

Dirt, sweat, or bacteria that accumulate can cause blockages in the pores of the vaginal skin, triggering the appearance of acne in the vagina. Therefore, it is important to always maintain the cleanliness of the intimate organs to avoid vaginal acne.

2. Contact dermatitis

Vaginal acne can also appear due to contact dermatitis. This condition is characterized by inflammation of the skin due to exposure to certain substances that cause irritation.

Vaginal contact dermatitis can also occur due to the use of bath soaps, cleaning wipes, and sanitary napkins that contain perfume, or certain ingredients in condoms.

3. Folliculitis

The next cause of acne in the vagina is folliculitis. This condition is characterized by inflammation of the hair follicles due to a bacterial infection. Folliculitis is generally caused by the habit of shaving pubic hair using unhygienic razors.

In addition to shaving, the habit of using underwear or tight clothing can also trigger folliculitis.

4. Hidradentitis suppurativa

Vaginal acne can be triggered by hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). This condition can occur when there is inflammation of the sweat glands. In addition to the vagina, hidradenitis suppurativa can also appear in areas of the skin that are prone to rubbing, such as the armpits, buttocks, and breasts.

5. Molluscum contagiosum

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection that can cause pimple-like bumps to appear anywhere on the body, including the vagina. This condition can cause symptoms such as itching, but is not painful and can heal on its own.

Vaginal acne usually goes away on its own. However, if the number is large or often reappears to cause discomfort, you should consult a doctor. Doctors will usually prescribe acne medication to be applied to the vagina.
