AllvertaGlobal – The mass shooting at a Texas elementary school a few days ago added to the list of tragedies of deadly gun violence in the United States (US). The latest shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, South Texas, United States on Tuesday (24/5) killed a total of 21 people, including 19 children
As a result of the incident, the President of the United States, Joe Biden, then urged Congress to immediately pass the Arms Restriction Act. Texas is not the first US state to experience a mass shooting and death toll. Here’s a list of US states that recorded the highest number of mass shootings from 1982 to May 2022, according to a Statista report.
California occupied the first position as a state that recorded cases of mass shootings in that time span. The number of mass shootings in California recorded 23 cases.
The state of Florida ranks second in terms of the number of mass shootings in the US. During those 4 decades, Florida reported 12 cases of mass shootings.
Texas, which recently became the world’s spotlight, reported 12 cases of mass shooting in its territory.
Washington reports the number of mass shootings at 7.
Not unlike Washington, during that time Colorado also recorded 7 cases of mass shootings. The next states, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and New York, each recorded five mass shootings over the past 40 years.
As for Illinois and Ohio there were 4 cases, while Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan reported 3 cases of mass shootings.
The number of mass shooting cases in the US does not just happen. The ownership of firearms in this country is supported by the Gun Control Act of 1968 which regulates firearms at the federal level.
Under this rule, citizens and legal residents who are at least 18 years old must purchase a gun or rifle as well as ammunition. The spirit of liberalism and the rules make it easier for US citizens to access weapons.
However, the US has also discussed the rules for limiting weapons which are currently still adrift for various reasons.
