“If the work of the Russian media, operators and journalists, is not normalized in the US, then the harshest measures will surely follow,” Zakharova said.

“All American media will be invited to the press center of the Russian Foreign Ministry to explain to them the consequences of their government’s line of hostility in the media sphere,” he added.
The US itself claims to always provide internet access to Russian citizens and media. The US assesses that Russia has imposed censorship on the media and their own citizens.

Russia recently accused Western countries of imposing unfair restrictions on Russian media abroad. One of them is the ban on several news outlets run and supported by the Russian government.
Meanwhile, lawmakers passed a bill last month that then gives prosecutors the power to close foreign media bureaus in Moscow if Western countries are ‘unfriendly’ to Russian media.

On the other hand, the Washington government has imposed sanctions on several state-run Russian TV stations. The US said the Russian media had spread disinformation to support Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, Russia has cracked down on media coverage of the conflict. They imposed a 15-year prison sentence for journalists who deliberately spread ‘fake’ news.
