AllvertaGlobal – At least 17 people died and dozens were injured when a train line derailed in Tabas, Iran, after hitting an excavator on Wednesday (8/6).
“Seventeen people died and 37 injured people have been rushed to hospital,” Iranian emergency services spokesman Mojtaba Khaledi told state media.
He then said, “The death toll is likely to rise considering the injured are in critical condition.”
Tabas is in South Khorasan province, about 900 kilometers from the capital Tehran.The deputy head of the state-owned railway, Mir Hassan Moussavi, said the train derailed after hitting an excavator.

He reported the train was carrying 348 passengers when the incident occurred.
Five of the 11 train carriages were mentally off track when the accident took place at 5:30 am local time.
The cause of the train crash is still under investigation.According to state television footage, ISNA, some of the injured passengers were taken to hospital by helicopter.
The media also showed pictures of rescue teams inspecting the overturned carriage.
